We had 20 corporate volunteers from Astra Zeneca out at the Carrs this week. We were working on a large section of willow spiling, used as a natural, soft engineering solution to river bank erosion. After trimming the existing willow, we made use of the cuttings to create small willow fences to discourage dogs from causing further erosion as well as opening up the view of the river again. The group were so efficient that they finished the river bank work and moved on to planting hundreds of spring bulbs at the Hawthorn Lane entrance to the Carrs.
