For most of us, one look outside at the weather is enough. “Put the kettle on, dear.” But our intrepid volunteers are of different mettle. While sensible people remain indoors, they are out in The Carrs making things better.
Recently it’s been rhododendron bashing, path drainage and flush creation. Rhododendron ponticum is an invasive species that smothers native plants and wildlife habitat — removing it is painstaking work but the results, over time, are transformative.
The path drainage work will make a real difference to accessibility through the wetter months. The Carrs can get rather boggy in places, and improving the drainage means more people can enjoy the park for more of the year.
Huge thanks as always to everyone who turns out regardless of the weather. You know who you are.
